My Blackout Wedding:
I speak from experience when I recommend having a backup plan, and expecting the unexpected. Let me share with you the story of our wedding day.

Let me first start by saying that I was the stereotypical bride when it came to wanting our day to be "perfect and memorable."
The blackout started the night before, leaving our family and friends in the dark at the rehearsal dinner. Thankfully, it was a nice night, the food was cooked by BBQ and and there were plenty of candles to go around.
The next day was entirely different. We had power!! Everything was going great!! I will admit that my nerves were starting to get the better of me, but a glass of wine and a manicure later, I was feeling better. Everything was going smoothly and according to plan.

It wasn't until my first steps toward the stair case, when Enya's "After the rain" had just started, that the power went out leaving our guests confused and me crying my eyes out while my dad tried telling jokes to get me to stop. I was then sung down the aisle by our 100+ guests. Certainly not Enya, but a wonderful gesture none-the-less. After the ceremony, everyone went outside hoping the breeze would cool them down, and my dad blared the stereo in his truck for background music. At 7pm the power came back on, food was served and the air-conditioning was on making it much more comfortable.

The day had come and gone. I had one specific guest come up to me before leaving and state very matter-of-factly: "Well you wanted it to be memorable". And it certainly was. Almost 8 years later and people still talk about it. I guess I got my wish after all!
